So with the ever increasing improvements in digital technology, and sales of digital cameras on the up, while film camera sales decline rapidly, as film finally had its day?

What do you think? Let’s hear your opinions. (don't forget to cast your vote in the poll)

I personally feel that there is still a place for film and will be for a number of years to come. The main users in my opinion will be the old school die hard film fans, and the high end photographer who still feels the quality still supersedes that of digital. PDT_Piratz_06

i don't know cause i've never shot with film, but i don't think people can still say that image quality of digital stays behind. digital has more advantages, especially looking at costs and the learning process. You can try and try with digital. So the "old school" might stay true to film for a while, but i think not many new photograpehrs will grab a film camera.

I don't use film and have little cause to, but.. i don't think it's had its day. There are some styles of image that lend themselves to film very, very well and there's a tonal quality you just can't reproduce with a digital image.

It may be the case that digital technology improves to the point where this tonal range is able to be reproduced, but until then, just like vinyl vs cd, there will always be a place for film.

I dont think its dead, as johnh said. They said the same thing about vinal records when cds first came out but now sales of vinal are on the up again, now that people have finaly realised that vinal sounds better.Film will always have its place.I think the main reason for digital cameras sales going up is pureley because familys have realised that if they spend £70 on a decent compact that it will pay for itself in no time4 plus they dont have to pay to get the films devloped and the can take as many pics as there card will hold, there will always be photographers who will want to shoot film.
