Using Print Scrn (don't ask me why it's called that) from the keyboard.
This is a much over looked keyboard function, and one that now offers enhanced options using CapSnapper from Cerious Software http://www.cerious.com/capsnapper.shtml for £10.00.
Print Scrn saves a snapshot of the current window to clipboard which can be loaded as a new image into your art package of choice and edited. I use it for walk throughs, getting snapshots of invoices (instead of printing and then having to file them), logon information, web page designs that I want to use for inspiration and so on.
Capsnapper saves the clipboard image to file automatically which means I can hit the Print Scrn key and forget about what to do with the image and edit it at leisure.
Print Scrn is just a copy function and to use the copied image one has to paste it as a new image. PSP - Paste as New Image, Elements - File > New > Image from Clipboard, CS2 - File > New (chosing 'Clipboard' from the presets, though CS2 will do this automatically) > ok, then Edit > Paste.
It is then loaded as an editable image, for cropping, adding text, or whatever.
It's called "Print Scrn" because "Print Screen" would be too long for the size of the key, and it's not important enough to be bigger than it is ;)
Without CapSnapper it'll capture the entire desktop to the clipboard _________________ There is nothing in life that cannot be improved with either monkeys, pirates or ninjas NPU Member

Very droll.
That said, my keyboard here at work does actually say "Print Screen" on it.. never noticed before!

Thanks Jon, that's right. Oops, well that's the value of team work.
Doesn't make your post any less valid - I'd imagine CapSnapper could be a very useful timesaver as it can often be the case that the active window is the only bit you're interested in _________________ There is nothing in life that cannot be improved with either monkeys, pirates or ninjas NPU Member

You can also use <Alt> + <Print Scrn> to capture just the active window.
On some laptops (like the HP Pavilion), the print screen key is a function key, so you need to press <fn> + <prt sc> or <fn> + <Alt> + <prt sc> for the active window. (prt sc is how the key is labeled on my laptop - if the keys get any smaller, it'll just be ps ). _________________ see my photography at john.seelbinder.org
Back in the days before graphical user interfaces, it did exactly what it says on the key _________________ There is nothing in life that cannot be improved with either monkeys, pirates or ninjas NPU Member
there's all sorts of stuff on pcs that's there because it's always been there, but isn't used any more.. backwards compatibility has a lot to answer for! _________________ There is nothing in life that cannot be improved with either monkeys, pirates or ninjas NPU Member
