One of my memory cards contains 5 folders, 3 of which my computer sees as empty but I can see the photos on my camera. However, on the camera, something black flashes on and off over the images when I'm viewing them. They were mainly of sunrises. Does anyone know what the black flashing shapes mean? It's an EOS 350D and a Sandisk Compact Flash.

those flashing spots can be overexposed parts of photo.
maybe in camera options u need to check is it set to "mass storage" when connected to computer.
Would have to agree, check the settings for the LCD screen, you may have selected highlights, if you have it flashes the overexposed bits of the image.
The computer may noit be showing them as the exposure may have been incorrect, try opeing them on the pc and the adjusting the expoure. _________________ -----------------------------------------------------
Well the same thing happened today when i was taking photos in the garden. I couldn't understand what the flashing black over the picture on the LCD screen was but when i asked my son he said it was showing me the overexposed parts of the photo. So you are right and thanks for your replies. Strangely, I could view todays photos on the computer - it didn't say folder is empty. Thats because i was trying out something different with the settings - obviously not correctly.

make a habit of formatting your card (in camera, not on the computer) on a regular basis - mine gets formatted before every shoot
the fact that you have multiple dirs on your card suggests you're not doing that it has no bearing on the content of this thread, but is a good habit to get in to
