Yere there be dragons.

Do not mess with dragons for you are crunchy and go well with Ketchup. Anyway, these are many years old but I thought I'd stick them up cos I made them. They're made of earthenware clay, took three months each to build and breathed fire once.

Probably Dave, though I don't think my sister has named hers. The rest went to dragon friendly homes but I'm not in touch with them so don't know.

I think I saw them in a Harry Potter movie Smile

Seriously though I love these dragons. If ever I get to affording drainage for my back garden then I will have dragons and lots of lovely gargoyles too!

Thanks Blue, hence the name and my first web site creators-not-consumers, and why I think creative people are the life blood of the world.

They were a lot of fun and incredibly hard work, the clay had to be kept at exactly the right humidity and each scale was hand shaped and stuck on from the tiniest ones on the tail to the big uns on the body, dried slowly and fired, literally trial by fire, lost a few too. I hope to get back there one day, but no kiln now is just a bit of a problem.

I have seen directions for building your own outdoor kiln. Doesn't look too terribly hard, and seems like it might be right up your alley... of course it depends on where you live, because of the smoke and all. Plus, I don't know if I would trust it with something I had worked on for months. Probably not as reliable as an electric.

It'd probably be worth checking out Blue, but the advantage of electric or gas is in maintaining a constant temperature.
