Wide angle zoom

Looking to buy a wide angle zoom for my 350d any advice / recommendation's would be really welcome. Confused

how wide and zoomy? the sigma 10-20mm is flavour of the month atm but might not be zoomy enough.

Yep I've got the Sigma 10-20 and its W I D E alright, as John says not much zoom though.
Depending on your budget and how wide you want to go (don't forget about the 1.6X factor of the 350D) the 17-40 F4L USM is by all accounts a great lens, not cheap though.

Just had a quick look for canon-fit lenses and saw these on speedgraphic. they don't have the 17-40 but found that on cameraking

Canon EF-S 10-22/f3.5-4.5 USM is £542.95

Canon EF-S 17-85/f4-5.6 IS USM is £445
Sigma 10-20/f4-5.6 EX DC HSM is £314
Sigma 17-70/f2.8-4.5 DC Macro is £239
Sigma 18-50/f3.5-5.6 DC is £84.95
Sigma 18-50/f2.8 EX DC Macro is £259.95
Tamron 17-50/f2.8 XR Di-II LD Asph is £284.95

Canon EF 17-40mm f/4 L USM Super Wide Angle Zoom AF Lens £494.96 from cameraking.co.uk

I have both a super-wide (tokina 12-24) and a wide zoom (nikkor 18-70) and they both have their uses. If you want something more zoomy than a super-wide like 10-20 or 12-24 then think about what you will be shooting - what sort of length will you _need_ the lens to go to? you may find that if you buy a super-wide then you shoot far more at that width than you ever thought you would

Great stuff John only thing I'd add is what are your future plans, this can affect which one you buy. Some are designed for certain cameras and can only be used with digital cameras.

Jonh your a star, put a lot of things in perspective and Mike good point about the possiblity of future upgrading. Its certainly given me plenty to think over. Need to make a short list and check out some reviews.Actualy I think I'll use Jon's list as a starter and work by elimination.

have to say i love my super wide. once the racing is over and i can get out and shoot 'normal' stuff it'll be making a regular appearance

i don't think my laptop is though, merging 7 12mp raw files tends to upset it ;)
