Had a go with that works Olympus compact today - set it on landscape mode for these - still have no idea with it - maily cos I couldn't see the flippin screen to frame the shots - just pointed in general direction and guessed

Well, if the boats reaction to pointing a compact at them is anything to go by, reckon you should bin it. Actually they are not half bad mate.
I have to say I hate that whole rear screen thing, totally off balance, no way to hold the camera steady, the delay as the camera decides to take the picture and having to hold extended arms in a most unnatural stance. No ta.
One of the reasons I got the Nikon coolpix for my stereo stuff was that the Finepix S5000 had a digital viewfinder which was total rubbish.

Shutter lag was the reason for me getting shut of my s5000 - got the d70 in place of it
