Hi Derek,

how hard have you cropped these?

Just wondering because Silverstone is surrounded by fences and is a nightmare to shoot through unless you have media acreditation.

I like the first one, shows more of the effort and stresses of the car than the other two and its a lot sharper.

Cor, I notice these you posted these on the 5th and wonder how I managed to miss them completely. Doh.

I like No 1 very much, it's a dynamic shot, No 2 is also good though without quite the same punch. I'm not keen on No 3 the band of white at the back seems to leech the shot.

When I posted these up I was wondering if anyone was going to like them as not everyone likes photos of cars! Thanks for the comments. No, I didn't have a photographers pass but I didn't crop the photos either.

I started high up in the stands opposite the pit entrance then walked round to the right to half way round where there were a couple of good vantage points. I did use a lens a very good friend lent me - Canon EF Zoom Lens - 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 L.

I'll post up a few more from an occasion when I did get a photographers pass. I agree it is a very difficult track to get good photos at because of the fencing.

Have looked at these a few times now and do like the first one especially, however, why is there always a but?, the shutter speed you have shot at has frozen the wheels and background which is where I would have like to have seen some motion blur

Exif data shows shutter speed of 1/1250s

How does one get a photographer pass for these events?

I am trying to master the motion blur effect but as I had been lent a very expensive lens by a good mate, which i'd never used before, I was a little worried about experimenting with it.

As for the photographers passes, it helps to know someone such as a scrutineer who might be able to get you one. Silverstone is difficult to get passes for though.

From Silverstone "Drifting" where we had passes
I think my son took this one

No 2 Is the business!

yes yes and yes now thats what I call a car picture that second one is awesome. The only thing for me to improve it would be a little more space on the L/H side as if for the car to go into.

The first is a little far away and the backgrounds to busy for me but theres potential there, good to see your son's still taking a few.
