Playing with macro lens in garden

Sigma 105 2.8 macro lens
iso 160 (should have been 100, but eyes let me down!!!)
1/200s @ f18
flash - hotshoe

as above but f 5.6

f 4.5

hmm, think should have remembered to change to manual, as just realised was on shutter priority - had been chasing the bee previously

#2 very nice. I hate spiders and that spider's a bit too spidery for my liking.
jonesc

a bit too close for comfort for my liking but good shots nonetheess

love the bumble bee and the colour of the flower, very patient man!

These all handheld Dave?

Nice work especially on the fly, normally the little buggers fly off when I get close to them.
The colour contrast between Bee - flower - background is also nice makes it stand out.

Had to handhold, as needed to move around - a lot - to get them

thanks, to all for comments - cheers

sorry dave, gonna have to be honest....

first one is ok..but the shadow, top left is bothering me a bit..
the spider does blend into its background a bit too much but thats nature i guess!!

second one is the best one....great focus on the eyes..but the composition isn't mind blowing...it is a fly tho, so it wasn't gonna pose for you!

third one..the bee isn't in focus enough for me to be honest... my eye wanders around the picture looking for a focal point and ends up on the flower petal on the right...

sorry mate... i have done A LOT of running round the garden with a macro lens!! so i know the challenges and know how hard it is...

I have to say, with this sort of thing i have found that you can never beat setting a tripod up...there will be plenty of spiders in the garden this summer that wont be going anywhere..so they are an easy target!
and i am planning on sitting in front of a flower that bee's like this summer and not moving..letting them come to me rather than chasing them round the garden!!!

still..its good fun tho ay!

no problem with honesty

that shadow was the hole the spider came out of, and this type of spider can move like thoroughbred racehorse when spooked. Ringlash may have helped get some detail in the "cave" but I have't got one yet, so thinking of getting an off camera flash cable

fly stayed put til flash went off

bee - focus was always going to be a problem due to being on shutter priority - will learn from my mistakes (hopefully - posted it as I did like the colour contrasts.
