Thanks Derek, I've added some sharpness to it, to crisp it up a bit. I am coming to the conclusion that there is no substitute for top quality glass. I took the shot with the remote in windless conditions and I still can't get what I consider to be an acceptable sharpness. Admittedly I took it under poor light, but I think I need to save lots of money and get a top lens.

It's an expensive discovery to make, but it's most definitely true

Have to admit to seeing this and coming back
Did not know if it was my eyes or not but it is definitely lacking Keith, on my monitor I am very hard pressed to see the point of focus - my monitor perhaps?

Out of curiosity, what kind of monitor are you using? I recently changed from a CRT monitor to TFT and am still getting used to the much higher quality picture I get with it. Although it is incredibly position sensitive and that has taken some getting used to, the thing is brilliant. I still have a CRT in the studio and have it on 1024 x 768 resolution which is the highest resolution I can read without specs. The TFT is on 1152 x 864 and is clearer than the CRT. That is not to say the picture isn't the problem and I'd very much like to hear what others say.

My monitor is CRT on 1280x1024 and I can't find a definite focus point either. Would be a great shot with dead on focus.

Wow! What's Ringo?? You mean they watch this site and choose pictures, or did you have the photo somewhere else?
My thoughts on the photo are pretty much what the others have said. It's a lovely idea and composition, but it seems to be out of focus, and more sharpness might be needed.

Ringo is the site I use to host all my forum pictures. I don't even know how to find the picture of the day, didn't now they even did one, had a look but can't find it. Still chuffed though, nice little boost.
The point of focus was the foremost iced fir twig, leaf, thing, What do firs have? Hence my whinge about glass. It ain't sharp. It's what's been bugging me about this camera ever since I bought it. When you get down and dirty with some close work, nothing is as sharp as I think it should be.

Keith firstly congrats on the Ringo thing,
I've looked at this a few times now and been wandering have you still got it on your memory card? I'd be interested to see where the camera actually said it at focused on - reason being I noticed last year I tried to take some similar shots and noticed mine kept trying to focus right on the ends and actually being able to see it was dame impossible on a small picture until you zoomed in.
Very much like the shot and the idea just wandering if it's the same problem I had.

Hi Mike, no it's not on the memory card now. I didn't know that camera could tell you where it was focussed. The only info I can find in the data is this: Nikon AF focus pos: "" ,00,02,00,04.

On mine in the same area as the histogram theres also a page which shows the camera focus point positions, just wandered if you'd got it and seen where it had actually focused.
