nikkon macro lensthinking about getting a macro lens after seeing one in a photography shop yesterday for £400
its a 60mm macro but it wont autofocus on my d40 which is fine until i get a d80 in a year or so
just wondered if anyone had any experience of this lens or one similar?

personally, i'd want longer than 60mm - tamron do a nice 90mm one
from what i understand, the loss of autofocus isn't a big deal when taking macro stuff tho

what does the 60mm and 90mm mean?

60 means in effect that you will have to be a lot closer to the subject than if you had a 90.
I have a 105 Sigma which gives me about 150mm from lens to subject at 1:1. Better if you want to do some insects withjout frightening them away too soon.

Forgot to add that the Tamron 90 and Sigma 105 got very good reviews and not a lot to choose between them

found it on jessops website,
105mm sigma macro lens for £290
or the 60mm nikon macro lens for £380
cant decide, it says the minimum focus distance is 30cm, is that ever a problem?
sorry for all the questions its just a minefield

Have a look at both - and try them - if shop won't let you try then go somewhere else. Its about you beimg comfortable when using it.
The Sigma lens moves out a good way (like a zoom).
Don't know about the Nikkor.
Minimum focus has never really affected me.
