Hi sean,Welcome to the forum.excellent shot there,I havent got into macro yet but I might just get a new lense thanks to venoms presuasion
sean

I've got to say, this macro lens is the best lens I've got. It wasn't cheap, but the results are spectacular when you get it right!

One thing I would say is that I wouldn't go for a cheap macro - I tried some and the Canon was the best by far (for a Canon camera obviously!)

I use it for some portrait work as well. The other lens I use is a 24-105mm f4L. Good all-rounder.

Cheers,
Sean.

...

find it tough taking portraits with my canon macro lens...
DOF to hard!
any tips!?
sean

Erm - for me it all depends on the distance and whether the subject is moving really...

f2.8 will give you some serious depth, but then you have to take your light and shutter speed into account. Use the depth of field preview button on the camera and play around with it when the camera is set to aperture priority!

Fantastic Macro!!

Technically it's a very sound shot, which means your mind just considers the pose of the mantis, which for me is fantastic - it seems to be full of humour.. Have you discovered the world's first camp praying mantis?

We had a mantis land on the bar in our first night in goa - i think they're a fantastically intriguing insect and this is a very memorable capture. Two thumbs up!

Yes must agree with whats already been said, the more i look at it the better it looks. As jonH as said the pose is full of humour and the detail is great. Well done that man
sean

Thanks for the comments/compliments.

I was shooting him/her for nearly an hour and he/she was really docile.

Their eyes are really extraordinary - the faceted pupil followed me around as I was moving and the body stayed dead still - very entertaining!
