Having the need to put filter on front of lens to protect when for the UV filters (as opposed to skylight filter - skylight easily done in ps), but could never see the difference in Hoyas pictures on the UV filter holder showing pic with and without.
So tried my own little experiment with Sigma 70 to 200 at 200 length, images are straight from camera no photochopping
first with filter, second without, the difference before I reduced size was very noticeable so hope it reproduces here. It certainly eliminates some of the mist - so 2 for the price of 1 - protection and haze reducer.

i can't really see any difference, but tbh uv filters for the most part are wasted on digi slrs - the hotfilter infront of the sensor filters uv and ir light anyway

Me too, I am afraid. I placed them one above the other in PS and could barely see any difference flicking between them.

Now that is strange, as surprisingly (for my eyes), I can see a difference - admit its not much but it does make a difference mainly to the first range of hills,
Jon - didn't realise there was a uv as well as ir hotfilter - cheers

Same here Hil,
I prefer to use skylight filters..... I'll have to take a couple of comparison shots myself.
