Katydid

Wow - I've been unhappy with my pictures all summer, then all at once a couple pop out of the camera which are keepers Rolling Eyes

Perhaps another candidate for the work comp (I can have two entries in each category).

Nothing done to this other than a small crop, a little saturation and sharpening (perhaps a little too much?).

Thats a fantastic close up John.

Found a tip for sharpness in CS3 - if you use unsharp mask, you can then go to edit and use "Fade Unsharp Mask" - this brings up a fade dialog box, where you choose a mode - found choosing luminosity seems to give better result.

Many thanks Dave,
Funny you should mention the fade USM - I just read about it for the first time this weekend (PM mag maybe? - can't remember). But it took your tip to get me to try it (and find it!). No wonder I never knew about it, hidden under the edit menu rather than the USM dialog. I also noticed that the fade USM becomes fade Smart Sharpen, fade Sharpen, fade Sharpen Edges, etc based on what filter was picked.

Seems to work very much like layer opacity.

Yikes! While experimenting, I found that fade ... is seemingly available for every filter, not just the sharpen filters. I guess I never knew this. Cool - a new toy Laughing

I found it in an article by Scott Kelby - photoshop guru - and I hadn't realised at the time of my first post that it was available generally

Fantastic shot John, absolutely 1st class!

The fade option is also available for the patch tool, if you're removing blemishes, only learnt about that a few weeks ago. Good to know it's there for other stuff. Top tip Dave.

Top class! I wondered what it would be with the title katydid... I was thinking of the books... what katy did, and what katy did next  Smile

Thanks Keith. As I compare this to other recent photos, it really does shine head and shoulders above the others - a lesson here I need to remember
