As I do solely use Photoshop Elements 5.0 I´ll explain the process for this program but I´m sure, it´s similar to Photoshop
1. Open your image in the editor
2. In the layer´s palette (at the bottom right) right-click on the background layer and choose duplicate (it will be named "background copy").
3. On the Filter Menu, choose Blur - Gaussian Blur, apply the filter to your liking (I usually use for my RAW-images 15-25 pixel, gives a nice dreamy atmosphere).
4. Now change the Blending Mode to "multiply" (on the layers palette on the left to the opacity slider, above the layers). If the effect is too strong you can lighten the effect by using the opacity slider.
5. If the picture is too dark by now, you can adjust the levels of contrast and brightness.
6. When you´re happy with the result right-click on the layer and choose
"flatten image". If you want to crop the picture, now it´s the time.
7. Good luck and HAVE FUN
I hope you can understand what I have written, if not, please say so

Hi Katja, you can jump from part 2 to part 6, all that you need is one copy and then do the blur and blend thing. There was an error when this was put on the web that seems to have included the uneeded copy and merging processes.

Cheers Katja, very prompt. will give that a go later if I have time between the mayhem that is sunday.

@ creators: Thank you very much for your info . Have always wondered why you have to duplicate the layers so often. Tried your tip this afternoon and it works brilliantly. As you can see I´ve updated the "how-to" already
@ simonphotoz: I´m looking forward to seeing your results soon .

I'm glad it worked, Katja, sometimes you get instructions and some bit may not make sense but you kind of follow it anyway, but the slightly simplified version makes it easier. Cool.
