Note to Carl - these were feeding with the ducks on Llyn Padarn, Llanberis, sometimes no more than 10 feet away - absolutely brilliant to watch - camera was down more than up to my face.

Dave, I recall the distances we were seeing them from at Conwy - I was beginning to think you were using an 800mm with 2x tcon for a moment. Both birds are nervy - amazing that you got that close!

Aaggghhh - bird ID off, the mergansers are actually female goosanders, bujt easy to mistake as they are very similar that's my excuse.

like all three, but especially the second one. water must be quite clear there? feathers have come out really well.
