Crumpled paper.I've been playing with this idea over the weekend, shot a few crumpled paper samples to get this look.

Thanks Dave, I would love to do a 40's look, pin up, what the butler saw, look and then use this effect so that it had time congruence. Though I am happy with these, I just want to take it to the next level. Time will tell.

I did, but wasn't happy with how cold they looked, but that might have to do with contrast or other processing, I am in the experimental phase (is there any other?), so shall be trying all sorts of stuff. I think I've said before that I am not a great fan of sepia, but it's all about context, and leaving a bit of colour in creates another dimension.

Here's one I tried. I love this shot, but B&W does nothing for it at all IMO.

sepia - arrggh - but when done right - and there are loads of different shades, need to look at opacity on layers, that is new sepia layer and reduce the opacity of that layer - again its all in the eye of the beholder.

have to agree with your comment on this one - not sure if its the pose though, it also looks like its lacking some sharpness, and it looks like halos on the left hand side and below the knee.
Don't think its an image for b&w

Yep, and pushing the frontiers, trying to bring sepia into 2008 and yet still maintaining a reminiscent look. Well, I hope so anyway. These images are all about five layers deep but at 50% opacity using various blends and a whole raft of other stuff. Playing, in other words.

Here's the same image maintaining some colour, it still isn't floating my boat, but it could go somewhere if I can get it together. There should be a term in photography and image creating for that something that is missing but not knowing what it is, 'je ne sais quoi' covers it if I've spelt it right, 'I know not what'. Yet...

Also the crumpled paper dosent show through as much as it does on the firdt shot so she looks pasted on...Not a critique,just an observation

Thanks Derek and fair play, it's a surprising amount of work to get a realistic look. The beauty of modern art programs though is that once I've sorted out a technique I can automate it.
