Couple of flowers.......

SO before I left on my trip, I splashed out and bought me an early Xmas pressie - a Canon Speedlight 580exII.

This coupled with my very expensive airline sickbag diffuser ( Embarassed ) and macro rings allowed the folowing shots:

Both shot round about f13 @ 1/180sec IIRC.

love the colours in the second image

I love the first one. Could I use it as my desktop background please? Smile

Second one is (for me) stunning!

I've never used macro lenses - do you use them with a general lens, or a macro, or either?

Thanks BA Fly!!  That shot is up there with some of the best shots I think I have taken, so thanks for commenting  Smile

In terms of the macro 'lens' - I have a set of Kenco extension rings
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/pro...EDGC_Auto_Extension_Tube_Set.html
which couple up to the camera, between body and lens.  They effectively move the lens away from the sensor, enlarging the image seen on the sensor.  I haven't had much luck with them, as less light gets to the sensor when using them, and DoF seems to be exaggerated when they are used, so I was pleased to see these results when coupled with a diffused flash...... Very Happy

Once I have a chance I'll post up some more shots using this set up, including spiders webs and water droplets. Just got to find me some time now Rolling Eyes

I like the second one too Smile

DOF is reduced irrespective of how you do your closeups.

#2 is fantastic, really like the DOF and the lustre of the flower.

Lovely pair of shots, but No 2 is spectacular.
