Blossom.Merely pedestrian?

Sadly, I think so.
The pedals of the flower in front seem to be in shadow and I find the branch on the right to be an intrusion, rather than strengthening the composition. The same for the branch directly behind the bloom.
After seeing many dof shots like this, I'm also beginning to think that a background as busy as this one needs to have a greater contrast in colour or brightness so as not to detract from the subject.
Sorry.
I'd be tempted to try again if I could both get good lighting on the pedals (more like the flower at the top to make them nice and white), and I think I'd crop very, very close to isolate the bloom sufficiently to eliminate the surrounding branches.

Trouble is they're two a penny, got to be really something to ever really be worth bothering with, thanks for the comment.

This is the sort of subject one needs to see in a different way and compose something interesting and unexpected. It also calls out for above average attention to detail and technical execution to help it rise above the ordinary.
There is a stunning picture there somewhere, I'm sure.
Just don't ask me how to do it That's the hard part

Aha, cunning technique and a great one, thanks Chris.
Just by the by, because this is something I feel strongly about, it is impossible to be stupid for not knowing something, or not knowing how to do something. That's just a process of learning, and until and unless you embark on that process of learning, you can't know what it is you want to know.
Stupid is really difficult, but I'd say that stupid is doing something that you really know better than to do. Like if you got hit by a car when walking out in the road without looking, and then did it again, I'd say that was pretty stupid.
Don't give yourself a hard time mate. Tell the committee in your head to p**s off. In 56 years the committee in my head has never had a decent word to say about me, what a bunch of tossers!

One I am happier with, better DoF and more interest, I thought.

Agree with all the comments - much better!
Love the background! Nice colours and contrast with the flowers.
For some reason I like the shadows cast by the stamens too. Nice shot.

Thanks guys. It took a bit of setting up because I wanted 'that' one and the bush had other ideas. How we suffer for out art.. *sigh*
