Been bugging me....This may be a stupid topic of dicsussion, but it's been bugging me for a while.
I went to the Nikon USA site to have a run at their tutorials on the D40. The tutorial is a pretty good overview of the camera. However, the gal in the 'movie' never shuts her left eye when she is looking through the viewfinder! Is that how it is supposed to work? Am I some kind of gimp (UK term?) for shutting my left eye while looking through the viewfinder with my right eye? I can't see any advantage to keeping my left eye open.
Maybe the director just thought the "scrunched up" left eye did not look as attractive.

Actually it's a damned fine question. I use my left eye for viewing and do not close my right eye. Reason for that is, it's gets pretty uncomfortable over a days shooting having a scrunched eye and over time that's simply how my viewing has developed.

I guess I've never spent a whole day shooting. Maybe you (and she) are right.

I don't think there's a 'right' to it, it's what works for you. It'll be interesting to hear what others do.

I think it's as Keith says, it's what you feel comfortable doing.
