love the first one, the blue in the background works well, as does the backlighting
to me the wood is far too central in the second shot, the rule of thirds isn't a rule to follow religiously but i think in this case it needed it

I'm becoming slightly concerned that I am starting to agree with everything Jon says. Either he has impecable taste and is quicker at responding than me, or I'm simply copying him!!!
The first one I think is great - the crop, the colouring and the backlighting are all fantastic. The second shot kinda comes across as a snapshot.....
