1st images with the new Nikon D40...

These were taken in overcast skies using everything default, with the kit lens. I did a bit of cropping. The color may be a bit "over the top". I will play with backing off the saturation a bit.

Very nice, though I agree about the saturation. Let the fun begin!

I had read that the D40 had high saturation, going for the 'postcard' crowd. Not bad for a kit lens, though. However, there are a a whole lot of menu items I can change just to see what their effect will be.

As you said, "let the fun begin".

somebody is now going to have some fun - nice first images, agreed a bit too much colour though - is that in the image editing program or straight from camera - if its from camera the menu's will have a facility in them - not too sure how much iot works though.

That's from the camera. I read somwewhere that it needs to be dialed down a notch or two.

Then you can try the retouch menu I believe

Touch Up:-

First seen in the D80, the D40 has a retouch menu that allows you to tint and tone your pictures, as well as instantly correct wayward exposures or remove redeye.

The image optimisation settings have been extended to include useful Vivid Plus and Black-and-White modes, and there are the same in-camera retouching options as those found on the more expensive D80.

Think you may need to reset this vivid plus setting

Its about all I can find at the moment - am at work

I am sure there are a few settings that need adjusting. I will experiment tonight. The images are still in the camera. Otherwise, there is always Nikon's image editor or PS.
