I've just had an email from Ringo saying they are shutting down on June 30th. The loss of hosting doesn't bother me so much as every picture I've posted here will go down. I'm not sure I am up to the task of going through all my posts and getting the pictures sorted out. That'll be a mere 3458 posts to check then. Oh....... Bother! _________________
going to be some blank spaces about, unlees they find someone to take over, which is what happened on one of the other image hosting sites I used a little while ago. _________________ -----------------------------------------------------
I'm gutted really, it's an unmitigated sodding disaster! I shifted to Ringo because I'd used up all the space on one of my web sites and online hosting looked like a good idea. I'm going to download all the pics on Ringo and at least have a go at replacing some of my stuff. It's a bit daunting though. _________________
That's awful - and they don't appear to have any info that they are going to close on their site - which means new members will be unaware of the problem. _________________ My Flickr Pics

Fraid so, I've double checked, I think... Doubt enters the dank, foetid, recesses of my mind. _________________
Just heard from one of my 'friends' on Ringo, she's in Argentina and wanted to know where I was going and if we could stay in touch. If this is bogus, it's a very effective scam/rumour. _________________
feel sorry for you mate. it's something you don't consider when you upload them. i wouldn't know what to do if photobucket disappeared with all my photos! _________________ happy 50th birthday - motown records
If you moved the photos somewhere else, it wouldn't be too hard to write [and I'm happy to do so] a simple find and replace script in SQL to change the links. I am presuming that this forum has a MySQL backend? _________________ --

peteski that would make you the total hero of the hour, seriously if there is a way to pull it off I would be so grateful. It's a total bummer when pictures get lost. I am in the process of downloading all my Ringo pictures in to one folder and then I am going to put them in a forum set on Flickr viewable by forum people only. I assume the names Ringo has given the files will be the same as the existing pictures.

I have no way to answer that question, I'm just a grunt round here, Dave may know or, if not, John certainly will. I'll drop him a line if Dave comes back with a negative. Thanks mate. _________________
I've actually done it, all 762 pictures, all loaded in a forum set on Flickr, phew! I am not sure how to set the privacy level on a set but all the pictures are set to private, view by friends only. To test whether they can be viewed here, here's another random pic. I need to check out the MySQL stuff next.
Five hours worth of doing, actually I thought it would take a whole lot longer then that. That raises another issue, my desktop computer is connected to the router by cable and is as slow as ditch water, very frequently not loading the page at all, just hanging, whereas, my laptop, which I ended up doing it on, is wireless connected and is always fast. Anyone got any clues about how I can improve the performance of the desktop? _________________
Just an update here. It was going to create a mess to have all my forum stuff on my flickr account and to maintain any kind of order there, so I've opened a Photobucket account for forum pictures, I'm in the process of uploading them all. _________________
