So as you may or may not know, I took some initiative to try to get photographing outside my 'box', and ended up gonig to nightschool to do two courses on photography.  One class is dedicated to 'Intermediate Digital Photography', and the second class focussing on 'Creative Lighting'.  Anyway, we set up and used a studio type space, and worked on lighting the space to get bright white backgrounds and floor space.  Here are some of my results:

School owners 8 month baby:

Melissa (my fiance)

Studio assitant: (changed to B+W in CS3)

Shannon (one of the models / victims)

Shannon again

Apologies for the compression - these look a lot better uncompressed (honest).

Feel free to C+C - I have to take them to school next week, so I could use some pre crit!  Smile

Ta much, and hope you enjoyed!

The baby looks better on here than the preview you sent me. Mrs D likes the frameless effect they have on this forum. I like the angle on the photo of the assistant although I'm not too sure about the frame. Lighting effects are looking good Smile

If thats a first attempt then I think your shots are excellent.  Well done. Did Melissa take any photos?

Thanks for the replys chaps!

Jon - I think the baby is looking a little pale due to both being slightly paler in complexion, and also the light was a little closer to her than to the other subjects (if i recall properly).  She certainly was a good bit light skin coloured than the rest thou.

Degsy - Melissa did take some shots, but I haven't any of her work here with me.  I'll see if I can get her to give me a few piccies of her handsome subject, for you to see  Very Happy

Point taken with the frame - I was attempting to solidify the B+W  conversion with a bold frame.  Was there too much black?  Not enough white?  Does it need something more, like a band of red or something?  Feel free to suggest some ideas!

It might just be that amongst the other frameless photos, it comes over a bit strong. Or, maybe the inner black line could be thinner like the white one? The outer black one could stay the same. Smile

My only criticism would be that the Melissa shot could do with a catchlight in both eyes.

The rest are great, no awkward shadows and look well exposed.

great first attempt and well worth going for the extra coaching.

I am at the minute trying out the nikon cls with speedlight attachments but results not too good at the moment due to me not knowing what I am doing. hope to put a few up soon.
