Just a quick question,

I have a D40 with the standard 18 - 55 lens and have recently bought the nikon 55 - 200 lens,

on the lens itself is "M/A" i know this is the focus switch but my question is, can you leave it on "A" for autofocus and still twist the lens to zoom or do you have keep flicking the switch back to "M" before zooming?

I'm sure it says to have it on "M" but just wondered: why, and if its necessary?

could be due to the fact that the body of the camera has no lens drive in it,

if lens has drive then then, I believe zooming on A is fine.

Some lenses on D40 will not autofocus (lack of motor in body of D40) so you will have to use Manual focus then zoom.

Am open to other suggestions, as I do not know too much about the D40.
