Epson has unveiled the Stylus Photo R2880, an A3+ printer designed to replace the R2400 model.

Priced £569.99 – and due out this month - the R2880 includes a revamped printer driver designed to give users control over black and white tones as well as gradation. 'This is similar to selecting specific papers and chemicals in the darkroom,' claims Epson.

Users can save their print settings.

Key features also include a new Micro Piezo print head that uses a new 'ink repelling' coating designed to 'improve dot replacement, which in turn improves image quality'.

The printer deploys Epson's UltraChrome K3 system ink with Vivid Magenta pigment ink.

Epson's senior product manager Mark Robinson claimed that the R2880 can 'achieve 85% of Pantone gamut using only eight ink cartridges'.

• Epson has also launched two new all-in-one printers. The SX200 and SX400 each feature a 1200dpi scanner and are due out in June priced £79.99 and £119.99 respectively

An A3 printer would be very nice, my HP 1200c is old now. But a word on printers, the last wedding I did I abandoned my printer and went to Boots. Since then I have given up using a personal printer for printing photographs except on very rare occasions. I now use Snapfish http://www1.snapfish.co.uk/home/t_=70834878 at a fraction of the price of a home printer and the quality is all that I could desire, so buyer beware.
