I really love these, Mike! Both versions. I don't know your family, but looking at the eyes I would guess this is Carol's daughter? Beautiful!
You've gotten the skin tone really well in the color version, but there is a distracting red light in her right eye, so only because of that I think I prefer the B&W.
Love the tight crop, it works really well here.
Oh, I just now saw the third shot. Hmm- the lighting is great, but I still really prefer the second image. Really speaks of innocence, with those big, pleading eyes looking right at the camera.

these are so beautiful and what a beautiful child. I like the 2nd one the best. I got a Kaitlyn in my family too - name _________________ forget all the photography rules! experiment
the colour in the first shot is sublime. the 5d is by far the nicest canon ever for colour, nearly as good as a nikon lol ;) absolutely gorgeous mike! i like the b&w conversion too - silky smooth. _________________ There is nothing in life that cannot be improved with either monkeys, pirates or ninjas NPU Member

Hadn't noticed the light in her eye but your right, I'll clone that out on the original .

have to say John I'm really pleased with the 5D and agree that the colour it gives is very true to life.
Well thanks again everyone, of all the pictures I take Portrait ones are the ones I enjoy the most, but also the ones that frustrate me. You see the shot you want, looks good through the view finder and whens it's on the screen grrrr oh well all apart of that learning curve. _________________
