Hello, my name is obvious, Shayna....
I love photography but I am just getting started really. I plan to purchase my new camera in the next few months and was looking for advise. Right now I plan to go with Canon 5D. Right now I am using....oh I am embarrased to say what i use
Anyway look foward to getting to know you guys and looking forward to the advise and wisdom of all of you!
Hi Shayna and welcome, if you love photography, you're in the right place. Don't be embarrassed about whatever you are using now, we all started somewhere, I can't even remember what my first digi camera was, but I progressed through a Finepix, then a Coolpix and finally a DSLR. Looking forward to seeing some of your work. _________________
Oh, and we also don't mind if you do become a Canon user
LOL, well I am still in debate mode! So change my mind!
I was looking at the Nikon D300 but to get the better quality lenses with Nikon is a lot more expensive than the same level of quality for Canon. With the pro lenses Canon is hundreds of dollars less (the difference between $1,000 vs $1,500) which is why I have thought about going with Canon, plus I like the soft smooth style of Canon's pictures. I hear the Nikon has the very crisp and sharp images.

Shayna - I could not sell you anything - even it was free. I would not even get into a discussion/debate about Nikon v Canon for I have never used a Canon - found out recently that a reason you see lots of Canon lenses on pro photographers kit is that Canon "donate" the lenses - free publicity.
Have no idea if the camera you mentioned (Canon) is a full frame sensor or not, that may be the persuading factor.
I have a D200 and its great.
JonH has a D2x and its remarkable
Mike is a Canon person and I am sure will come along and put his two cents worth in shortly. As, I am sure, will a few others.
That is just a few. _________________ -----------------------------------------------------
Mike has the 5D amongst others (Dave - it is the full frame one ) I have to say I think the colours out of the 5D are lovely but in my eyes Nikon has the top spot for colour.
Canon lenses do tend to be cheaper than the Nikon counterparts but from what I've heard from some Canon users, they're not as well-built, so it's swings and roundabouts.
Which ever system you buy into, I have no doubt you'll have a whale of a time using it - Canon & Nikon are the top two for good reason. _________________ There is nothing in life that cannot be improved with either monkeys, pirates or ninjas NPU Member
Hi Shayna,
Welcome to the group. I look forward to seeing your stuff.
I shoot with a Nikon D200, with the 17-200mm kit lens, and it's a fabulous combo, it's really a great, all-purpose lens- which is a good thing, since I only have one other, LOL.
I had a coolpix for a long time, and did ok with it, and there are a few others on here that do not have DSLR's, so no worries.
Take care,
Blue
